Chelsea will reportedly take a £5million pay day because of a clause in Eden Hazard's move to Real Madrid in 2019 - even though he retired last October.

Hazard moved to Madrid for an initial £88million fee on a five-year deal which would have expired this summer.

Lucrative potential add-ons meant the package could have reached up to £150m dependent on performance, of which £130m has been earned.

And although Hazard hung up his boots seven months ago, those bonuses still apply until the end of his original deal.

Chelsea are due to bank £5m because Madrid have reached the Champions League fina, as per The Telegraph.

Selling Hazard aged 28 to Madrid ahead of the 2019-20 season has been revered as one of the most shrewd deals in recent footballing history.

That's because the Belgian's form fell off a cliff at the Bernabeu. In four seasons he managed 76 games in all competitions, scoring just seven times and assisting 12 goals. His contract was terminated last summer.

That haul was worse than his stunning record in his final season at Stamford Bridge - 21 goals and 17 assists.

The winger was one of the world's foremost players in his seven years at Chelsea, where he won two Premier Leagues, two Europa Leagues, an FA Cup, and an EFL Cup.

He also finished in the top 10 for the Ballon d'Or three times, placing as high as seventh in 2018.

On June 9, he is set for a return to Stamford Bridge for Soccer Aid.

Announcing his retirement in October, he said: 'You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time.

'After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer.

'I was able to realise my dream, I have played and had fun on many pitches around the world.

'During my career I was lucky to meet great managers, coaches and teammates - thank you to everyone for these great times, I will miss you all.

'I also want to thank the clubs I have played for: LOSC, Chelsea and Real Madrid; and thank the RBFA for my Belgian Selection.

'A special thank you to my family, my friends, my advisors and the people who have been close to me in good times and bad.

'Finally, a huge thank you to you, my fans, who have followed me for all these years and for your encouragement everywhere I have played.

'Now is the time to enjoy my loved ones and have new experiences. See you off the field soon my friends'.
