Chelsea's sporting directors are reportedly safe from being ejected from Stamford Bridge - despite a patchy record with transfers.

Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart are on firm ground ahead of the club's end-of-season review next week.

They have the 'enthusiastic backing' of board members and will be free to continue leading Chelsea's transfer moves, according to The Telegraph.

Meanwhile, the future of Mauricio will be reviewed following the club's final game of the season against Bournemouth on Sunday.

Chelsea's spend under Todd Boehly and Blue Co has exceeded £1billion and the fans have been befuddled at the gargantuan spend on some unproven youngsters.

Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez are the two most expensive signings in the club's history at £115million and £107m respectively and have not always lived up to that, despite patches of good form.

Winstanley joined Chelsea in November 2022 and Stewart signed up in January 2023, so it is worth stressing that they are not responsible for all the outlays under Boehly.

Signings made in the summer of 2022 such as Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, and Raheem Sterling were not under their remit.

However, they were responsible for the gargantuan outlay last summer and the appointment of Pochettino.

That means they were in charge of bringing Cole Palmer to the club for £42.5m, an inspired signing who has produced 26 goals and 14 assists.

However, it also sees them accused of assembling a squad with little experience and leadership. Only Thiago Silva and Marcus Bettinelli, who were there before they arrived, are over 30.

Chelsea chiefs are delighted with Winstanley and Stewart, as per The Telegraph, and believe new director of global recruitment Sam Jewell will be helpful.

The Blues have progressed in 2024, notching the fourth-best league form to rise up to seventh in the Premier League, level on points with Newcastle. They could yet catch Tottenham in fifth.

While there have been doubts over the likes of Jackson and Caicedo, they have improved over the course of the season and Chelsea are happy with them.

Djordje Petrovic, who cost £14m, has been good value in goal but they may look for another first-choice 'keeper after the £25m signing of Robert Sanchez failed to pay off.

Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia suffered long-term injuries shortly after joining and therefore cannot be judged much, and there is hope they will show their talents next season.
